Formed in 2005, the Criminal Apprehension Team is a specialized unit that concentrates on the investigation, apprehension and arrest of criminal fugitives. The team consists of one supervisor and five patrol officers who take on these responsibilities in addition to their regular police duties.
Each day, the courts of the Commonwealth issue hundreds of arrest warrants. While some warrants are issued to police officers seeking to arrest a defendant for a serious offense, most are issued for defendants who have defaulted on court appearances or violated the conditions of their probation. Many of those defendants are wanted for minor offenses.
Each outstanding arrest warrant represents a criminal case that has not been adjudicated. The large number of recalcitrant defendants, and the public’s perception that these defendants have flouted the law, make it imperative that every law enforcement agency undertake an aggressive and organized effort to serve arrest warrants.
The Watertown Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Team is dedicated to this endeavor for the sake of justice and for the protection of the citizens of Watertown and the commonwealth.
Anyone with questions or information concerning a wanted criminal fugitive is urged to contact the Criminal Apprehension Team.
