Statement from the WPD Concerning Retired Sgt. Joseph Deignan

by: Officer Connors
Posted in: General, Headlines, News

The Watertown Police Department is saddened to learn of the arrest of former police Sergeant Joseph Deignan.  Sgt. Deignan retired from the Watertown Police Department after 32 years of service in February of 2012.

This unfortunate incident demonstrates that police officers are not immune from the devastation of substance abuse.  Every family, community and workplace is susceptible to the harm caused by substance abuse in some capacity.

The Watertown Police Department has conducted a thorough internal investigation and has implemented new policies and procedures to provide additional security measures.

As always, the men and women of the Watertown Police Department continue to provide first class public safety and service to the citizens of Watertown.  We appreciate all the support we continue to receive during this difficult time.
