Police apprehend man wanted for Belmont shooting

A shooting, that occurred in Belmont, was initially reported at the Watertown Police Station around noon on Tuesday December 16, 2008. Four individuals came into the Police Station lobby and reported their vehicle had been shot at several times in Belmont. Shortly after a police radio broadcast of the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with this shooting Watertown Animal Control Officer Karen O’Reilly spotted the vehicle in the area of Watertown Square. She contacted the Watertown Dispatchers and provided detailed information regarding the vehicle until Watertown cruisers converged on the area. Officer Joseph Casella who was working a nearby detail responded and detained the operator as the vehicle was at a red light. Officer Casella will be retiring in January after 28 years of service. Further investigation by Watertown detectives led to the recovery of a hand gun.
