Increased Traffic Enforcement for School Openings

The Watertown Police Patrol and Traffic Division will be conducting increased traffic enforcement in conjunction with the opening of schools in Watertown. Beginning on September 4th, motorists can expect to see a substantial increase in uniformed officers in the areas surrounding the Watertown public schools and at or near school bus stops. Traffic enforcement at or near the school zones will be strictly enforced as will school bus laws.

Motorists are cautioned to obey the school zone speed limit of 20 MPH and a maximum speed limit of 30 MPH on all other roads unless otherwise posted. Speeding tickets can amount to hundreds of dollars in fines and additional insurance surcharges.

The Police expect to continue strict enforcement of all traffic laws with an emphasis on speeding and seat belt usage at or near the Watertown Public schools for the entire school year. Parents and students are asked to be mindful of new or existing traffic patterns for pick-up and drop-off locations and to always use crosswalks where available.
